Poneke Trio is an exciting new trio consisting of three well-known chamber musicians.
Anna van der Zee (violin) has recently returned to New Zealand to take up a position with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, after spending two years studying with the Takács Quartet in Colorado.
Richard Mapp (piano), Senior Lecturer at the New Zealand School of Music, is well known to chamber music audiences, having last toured with Jenny Wollerman in 2010.
Paul Mitchell (cello) is Sub-Principal in the Vector Wellington Orchestra, and has studied at the Royal College of Music and lived in Spain, where he held principal positions with the Orquesta Sinfonica de las Baleares.
The Wellington-based ensemble explains: "Poneke is the Maori transliteration of Port Nicholas - ie, Wellington".
