Ogen Trio

‘Ogen’ is the Bulgarian word for fire and best describes the Ogen Trio’s performances. Formed in 1996 by pianist Katherine Austin, violinist Dimitri Atanassov and cellist James Tennant, the Ogen Trio have become well established as one of New Zealand’s leading piano trios.

Described by media as inspirational, magical, enormously intense and energetic, the trio’s chosen name aptly reflects their musical dynamic.

A well-known and popular pianist, Katherine Austin performs throughout New Zealand as a soloist and chamber musician. Bulgarian born violinist Dimitri Atanassov was chosen to participate in the World Symphony Orchestra before moving to New Zealand. He also performs regularly throughout New Zealand as concerto soloist and chamber musician. Since arriving in New Zealand in 1982, American born cellist James Tennant has become has performed with New Zealand’s leading orchestras, has toured for Chamber Music New Zealand and teaches at the universities of Waikato and Auckland.
